‘Fargo’ is an anthology crime drama television series, created by Noah Hawley. Bringing in a delicious mix of satire, politics, violence, and dark humor, the show draws inspiration from the eponymous 1996 film, written and directed by the Coen brothers.
‘Fargo’ originally premiered on April 15, 2014, on FX, and opened to strong ratings. Since then, it has been renewed for three additional seasons, with each distinct story being set in a different era and location. The fourth edition dropped in September 2020 and managed to attract positive reviews as well. So this brings us to the next question: will there be a ‘Fargo’ season 5? Let’s get started!
Fargo Season 5 Release Date:
‘Fargo’ season 4 premiered on September 27, 2020, on FX. It wrapped up with its 11th episode on November 29, 2020. Now, as far as the next season goes, FX has not officially renewed ‘Fargo’ on this date. However, in an interview with Deadline, when asked about a potential new season, creator Noah Hawley said: “I’m certainly not ruling it out … It’s not just one idea you need, it’s a hundred ideas and characters … so that tends to percolate.” So, yes, we should keep our hopes up.
Continuing on that positive note, ‘Fargo’ additionally happens to one of FX’s critically acclaimed shows. Therefore, we are optimistic that it will be renewed soon. If that happens in the next couple of months, we can expect ‘Fargo’ season 5 to premiere sometime in 2022. (NOTE: The show is notorious to have prolonged waiting times between seasons!)
Fargo Season 5 Cast: Who Can be in it?
Since ‘Fargo’ follows an anthology format, we have different characters in each of its seasons. In season 4, we have Chris Rock as Loy Cannon, Jessie Buckley as Oraetta Mayflower, Jason Schwartzman as Josto Fadda, Ben Whishaw as Patrick Milligan, Jack Huston as Odis Weff, Salvatore Esposito as Gaetano Fadda, E’myri Crutchfield as Ethelrida, Andrew Bird as Thurman, Anji White as Dibrell, Jeremie Harris as Leon, Matthew Elam as Lemuel, Corey Hendrix as Omie, James Vincent Meredith as Opal, Francesco Acquaroli as Ebal, Gaetano Bruno as Constant, Stephen Spencer as Dr. David Harvard, and Karen Aldridge as Zelmare. Of course, season 5 will feature a fresh roster of stars.
Fargo Season 5 Plot: What Can it be About?
Each season of ‘Fargo’ is set in a different timeline and location — although all the seasons have a slight overlap. For instance, the events of season 4 take place in 1950, in Kansas City — which is at war, thanks to the enmity between the Cannon and the Fadda clans. Toward the end, Josto Fadda is killed by the hands of his own family, owing to his snitch of a mistress, Oraetta Mayflower. On the other hand, Loy Cannon witnesses the return of his son Satchel. However, Zelmare Roulette stabs Loy to death right before his son.
The final scene of the finale shows Satchel growing up to be a ’70s gangster Mike Milligan, who appears in ‘Fargo’ season 2. Season 5 will pick up a new story, packed with the show’s signature twists and violence, but set in a different era and place.
